Gary SouthShore 5, Sioux City 4
The Gary SouthShore RailCats walked off on the Sioux City Explorers 5-4 as DH Drew Martinez scored when pinch hitter Jaime Del Valle bounced into a fielder's choice in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Explorers held an early 4-1 lead thanks to RBI from SS Noah Perio and 3B Tommy Mendonca. The RailCats rallied to tie the score with a pair of runs in the fourth and another in the fifth. Del Valle ended the game with a fielder's choice in his only at bat of the game. CF Jon Jones went 3-for-4 to lead the RailCats and RF Brandon Thomas had a team-high two RBI.
For the Explorers, both 2B Ryan Court and C Matt Koch had two hits.
Laredo 5, Wichita 0
The Laredo Lemurs blanked the Wichita Wingnuts and scored all of their runs in the third inning as they beat the Wichita Wingnuts 5-0.
In the third, LF Dvontrey Richardson opened the scoring with a double to left field that plated SS Jarred Mederos. Richardson and 2B Kevin Taylor both scored on a double by RF Denis Phipps later in the inning and Phipps scored on a double by 1B Dustin Geiger. 3B Juan Silverio capped off the run of RBI producing doubles with one that scored Geiger.
On the bump, starting pitcher Luis Pollorena picked up the win as he went 6.2 innings and allowed just five hits while striking out five Wingnuts. Reliever John Brebbia finished things off and worked the final 2.1 innings while allowing just two hits.
Fargo-Moorhead 5, Rockland 3
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks took a three-run lead in the second inning and never trailed on the way to a 5-3 win against the Rockland Boulders.
CF Drew Muren gave the RedHawks the early lead with a bases-clearing double in the top of the second. C Marcus Nidiffer scratched out a run for the Boulders in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly but DH Joe Staley cancelled out that run with the first of his two RBI in the sixth inning. In the seventh, RF Joe Maloney hit a solo shot and Nidiffer scored as DH Alex DeBellis bounced into a double play.
Staley added a solo home run of his own in the top of the ninth. For the night, 3B Taylor Oldham led the way as he went 4-for-4 at the plate. For Rockland, 3B Giuseppe Papaccio was the only player to have more than one hit as he went 2-for-3.
Sioux City 10, Amarillo 6
The Sioux City Canaries outdueled the Amarillo Thunderheads 10-6 in a game where the two teams combined for 32 hits.
All nine Canaries that stepped to the plate on Saturday registered at least one hit and six of them had more than one hit. Three Canaries "" SS Jerome Pena, LF Brian Humphries and 2B Brett Balkin "" each had three hits in the game and three others each added a pair of hits. C Tyler Shover and 1B Steve Sulcoski were two of those players to have two hits and they added two and three RBI respectively.
For the Thunderheads, CF Dexter Kjerstad had a game-high four hits and 1B Rene Leveret had a team-high two RBI.
Lincoln 8, St. Paul 2
The Lincoln Saltdogs scored a run in each of the first three innings against the St. Paul Saints and then salted away an 8-2 win with five runs in the top of the ninth.
Eight different Saltdogs had hits in the game and they were led by leadoff man CF Matt Forgatch. Forgatch went 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored and two of his three hits were triples. Both DH Curt Smith and 1B Jeremy Hamilton added two hits and an RBI. 3B Eddie Young also had an RBI for the Saltdogs. For the Saints, CF Alonzo Harris had a team-high two hits.
On the mound, reliever Zach Wescott picked up the win for working 2.1 innings and allowing just one unearned run on three hits while striking out five batters.
Joplin 10, Grand Prairie 3
Earlier in the season, Maikol Gonzalez hit the first home run in the history of the Joplin Blasters and in Saturday's 10-3 win against the Grand Prairie AirHogs, Gonzalez hit the first grand slam in Blasters' history.
The Blasters scored a pair of runs in the first inning with the help of three errors by the AirHogs. The AirHogs responded with a run in the bottom of the first but Gabe Suarez scored Jesus Solorzano in the second to put the Blasters back ahead by two runs. Later in the inning, Gonzalez hit his grand slam to put the Blasters comfortably out in front.
The win gives the Blasters a 2-1 lead in the four-game series. Game four is set for Sunday and at 2:05 p.m.
Winnipeg 7, Kansas City 4 "" In progress/12 Inning
The Winnipeg Goldeyes and the Kansas City T-Bones are still in progress and are currently in the 12th inning. Winnipeg took the lead with three runs in the top of the 12th inning to lead 7-4. For a full recap visit www.americanassociationbaseball.com.
