El Paso 8, Amarillo 2 (Game 1 - 7 Innings)
The El Paso Diablos beat out the Amarillo Sox with an offensive outburst to the tune of 12 hits and eight runs to leave the final score at 8-2.
RF Welington Dotel lead the Diablos out of the three-hole. He went 2-4 with three RBI's and one run. 2B Jose Garcia did well hitting right in front of Dotel. Garcia managed a 2-4 night with a double and two runs scored.
Keving Cooper threw all seven innings for El Paso and limited the Amarillo Sox to just three hits and two runs. He struck out one batter and walked four during the game.
El Paso Amarillo (In Progress - Bottom 4)
The second game between El Paso and Amarillo is still in progress with El Paso leading Amarillo 5-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
New Jersey 3, Wichita 1 (Game 1 - 7 Innings)
In the first game of an interleague doubleheader, the New Jersey Jackals got the better of the Wichita Wingnuts, winning 3-1.
2B Jose Cuevas was the only batter of either team to get more than one hit on the night. He went 2-3 for the Jackals out of the seventh spot in the lineup including a double. While DH Cody Johnson only managed one hit, he made it worthwhile as it was his first homerun of the season.
Jon Lucas was just two outs shy of throwing the complete seven inning game for New Jersey. He picked up the win after 6.1 innings of one run baseball. The Wingnuts would only manage three hits and one walk on Lucas while striking out four times.
Wichita 2, New Jersey 1 (Game 2 - 7 innings)
The Wingnuts bounced back in the second game of the series, doubling up the Jackals in a pitcher's dual to win 2-1.
Wichita starter, Anthony Capra went six full innings while only giving up one run on four hits. He struck out seven batters and walked three. Josh Dew picked up his 19th save of the season after throwing a shutout seventh inning to lock in the win.
2B Jake Kahaulelio and DH John Rodriguez would get across the only runs of the game for Wichita while going 1-4 and 1-2 respectively. Rodriguez had a particularly good showing with two walks and a homer as well.
Lincoln 4, Gary SouthShore 1
Strong pitching from the Lincoln Saltdogs would be enough to get passed the Gary SouthShore RailCats 4-1.
Stephen Bougher had an excellent night on the mound and picked up his third win of the season. He threw eight full innings while allowing just four hits and the only run Gary SouthShore would score. He also fanned four batters an walked just one on 106 pitches.
R.J. Rodriguez came in the game to throw a perfect ninth inning and pick up is 27th save of the season.
On the offensive side of the ball it was DH Ian Gac who did most of the damage. Gac was responsible for three of Lincoln's runs, scoring twice and driving in one. He went 2-4 and hit his 15th homer of the season.
St. Paul 7, Sioux City 5
Sioux City led the St. Paul Saints the entire game until the seventh inning, when the Saints scored three runs to tie the game at 5-5. They would score two more in the eighth and hold the Explorers to win 7-5.
2B Dan Kaczrowski had a phenomenal night in the leadoff spot, going 3-4 with a walk, two runs, and two RBI's to set the tone for St. Paul. LF Brian Burgamy also did well with a homerun, two walks, and three RBI's.
Mikey Mehlich and Jon Plefka should be given a lot of credit for shutting down the Explorers in the last two innings of the game. The two were the only St. Paul pitchers to prevent Sioux City from scoring as they combined for two innings while allowing just one hit and one walk.
Mehlich was credited with the win, an Plefka picked up a save.
Fargo-Moorhead 9, Kansas City 7
Fargo-Moorhead scored first in the second inning and didn't stop until a three run sixth inning to top the Kansas City T-Bones 9-7.
It was an all-around effort offensively for Fargo-Moorhead, with only one batter going hit-less and the team tallying 15 hits altogether. CF Nic Jackson and 2B C.J. Retherford both managed three hits and combined for four RBI's and four runs.
Although starter Jake Laber gave up six runs, he did enough to keep Fargo-Moorhead in the game. He threw 6.2 innings and struck out three while allowing eight hits and four walks.
Laredo 4, Grand Prairie 1
The Laredo pitching staff used five pitchers to hold the Grand Prairie AirHogs to a single run despite 14 hits. The Lemurs would manage nine, but go on to win 4-1.
Sean Tracey picked up the win for Laredo after throwing two innings and allowing one run on two hits. However, the rest of the Lemurs pitching staff was impressive as well. Michael Suk, Jameson Maj, Mark Haynes, and Chad Povich combined for seven innings and allowed no runs and eight hits. They also struck out seven batters and walked just four.
DH John Allen scored half of the team's runs while going 1-3 with a walk at the plate. C Brian Peterson also did well offensively. He went 2-4 and drove in one run.
Sioux Falls 1, Winnipeg 0 (Suspended - Bottom 4)
The game between the Sioux Falls Canaries and the Winnipeg Goldeyes was suspended due to rain during the bottom of the fourth inning with Sioux Falls leading Winnipeg 1-0. The game will resume at 1:35 PM on Sunday, August 11 as a nine inning game. A seven-inning game will follow for the series finale.
