Sioux Falls 8, Winnipeg 1
The Sioux Falls Pheasants' four-run fourth inning helped them roll to an 8-1 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Sioux Falls struck first when CF Reggie Abercrombie hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning to give the Pheasants an early lead. Winnipeg pegged a run back in the top of the third, but Sioux Falls plated four runs in the next inning to build a sizeable 6-1 lead. Pheasants C Henry Contreras went 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and three RBIs, and RF Gus Milner went 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Pheasants starting pitcher Ben Moore pitched a gem to earn the win. Moore pitched a complete game and surrendered just one run on two hits while striking out 10 batters. Moore's ERA is a league-best 2.23 after his solid outing tonight. For Winnipeg, 2B Price Kendall collected an RBI in the loss.
Gary SouthShore 3, Fargo-Moorhead 1
After falling behind in the first inning, Gary SouthShore scored two runs in the second inning and one in the fifth inning to edge Fargo-Moorhead 3-1. RailCats 3B Chris Carrara's only hit of the game proved to be a big one. In the bottom of the second inning, Carrara hit a two-run double to claim a 2-1 lead for Gary SouthShore. RailCats CF Mike Massaro batted in an insurance run in the fifth inning. RailCats starting pitcher Ryne Reynoso earned the win and allowed just one run on six hits in five innings pitched. Gary SouthShore closer Travis Minix worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn the save. For the RedHawks, CF Nic Jackson batted in the team's lone run in the game.
Amarillo 3, Grand Prairie 2
Amarillo scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to edge Grand Prairie for a 3-2 win. The Sox entered the eighth inning trailing 2-1. In the bottom half of the frame, LF Kevin Butler hit a single that plated 1B Cyle Hankerd and DH Lee Cruz. Butler's go-ahead hit proved to be the difference as the Sox held on to win by one run. Sox CF Fehlandt Lentini batted in Amarillo's other run in the game. Sox relief pitcher Chad Povich was credited with the win for his scoreless one inning pitched. Despite earning a no-decision, Sox starting pitcher Justin Garcia had a solid outing, allowing just two runs on eight hits while striking out eight hitters in seven innings pitched. For the AirHogs, 3B Bryan Frichter homered in the loss.
Sioux City 11, St. Paul 5
Sioux City set the tone early with four runs in the first inning as the Explorers rolled past the St. Paul Saints by a score of 11-5. Sioux City SS Ryan Priddy led the Explorers with three RBIs and also went 2-for-5 at the plate with a run scored. Explorers CF Dustin Jones went 3-for-5 at the plate, doubled twice, scored two runs and had an RBI. First baseman Brett Flowers and RF Kent Sakamoto each had two RBIs in the game for Sioux City. Starting pitcher Richard Salazar earned the win for the Explorers, tossing 6.1 innings and allowing four earned runs on nine hits. For the Saints, SS Steve Mays had two RBIs in the loss.
Wichita 2, El Paso 1
The Wichita Wingnuts edged the El Paso Diablos 2-1 in a tight one. El Paso went ahead when they scored a run in the top of the third, but Wichita equalized in the bottom half of the inning. The Wingnuts then went ahead with a run in the bottom of the fifth and the 2-1 lead was all they needed to seal a win. Wichita CF Brent Clevlen went 2-for-3 with an RBI and LF Mike Conroy batted in a run as well. Wingnuts starting pitcher Derek Blacksher allowed just one run on seven hits in 6.2 innings pitched to earn the win. Josh Dew worked a scoreless ninth to earn the save for Wichita. For the Diablos, RF Stephen Douglas had two hits and batted in El Paso's only run in the loss.
Shreveport-Bossier 8, Fort Worth 3
Trailing 3-2 and down to their last three outs, the Shreveport-Bossier Captains exploded for six runs in the top of the ninth to claim an 8-3 win over the Fort Worth Cats. Captains SS John Johnson started the scoring in the decisive top of the ninth with an RBI single that tied the game 3-3. Center fielder Robert Perry hit a two-RBI double two batters later. Perry finished with three RBIs in the game. Captains DH Palmer Karr Jr. hit a two-RBI double and later came around to score on an error to cap off the six-run inning. Captains reliever Jameson Maj earned the win for a scoreless one inning pitched. Cats 3B Will Calhoun had two RBIs in the loss for Fort Worth.
Kansas City 5, Lincoln 3 (11 Innings)
Kansas City scored two runs in the eleventh inning to seal a 5-3 win against the Lincoln Saltdogs. The T-Bones and the Saltdogs each scored a run in the second inning and the score remained 1-1 after nine innings. Each team scored two runs in the tenth inning to send the game to the eleventh. In the top of the eleventh, LF Aharon Eggleston belted a two-run home run which proved to be the difference in the game. Eggleston went 3-for-5 in the game with a homer and a triple. Kansas City CF Keanon Simon had an RBI and also hit one double and one triple in the game. T-Bones reliever Andy Shipman earned the win, allowing two runs on three hits in two innings pitched. For Lincoln, 1B Phil Hawke went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the loss.
