Pensacola RF Marcos Rodriguez gave his team a 3-0 lead with a three-run homer in the top of the first inning, his third home run of the season. Rodriguez went 2-for-3 in the game with a run and three RBI. But after tying the game in the bottom of the first, the Cats scored two runs in the very next inning to take a 5-3 lead. Cats SS Marc Mirizzi went 2-for-3 in the game with four RBI. Starting Cats pitcher Nick Martin evened his season record at 4-4 with a six-inning performance in which he allowed three runs on five hits with four walks and five strikeouts.

Starting Cats pitcher Dan Valentin pitched a complete-game one-hitter in game two with no walks and eight strikeouts. The only Pelicans hit of the game came in the fifth inning, when Pensacola 3B Trino Aguilar broke up the no-hitter with a two-out single. The Cats scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to give Valentin run support to work with. The Cats were led offensively by 1B Charles Carter, who went 2-for-2 in the game with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI. With the sweep of the doubleheader, the Cats sit atop the second half South Division standings with a record of 11-3.

With the score tied at 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning, Saltdogs SS Tony Garcia hit his third home run of the season to give his team a one-run lead. It was Garcia's only hit of the evening, but proved to be an important one. A combination of starting Lincoln pitcher Jarrett Gardner and relievers Mark Roberts and Matt Varner pitched the final four innings without allowing a run to give Lincoln its seventh win of the second half. Gardner pitched seven innings and allowed one run on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts. For Sioux Falls, LF Scott Lydy went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

St. Joe 5, Shreveport 2

The Blacksnakes never trailed the Sports on their way to their third win of the second half. St. Joe took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a run-scoring single by St. Joe CF David Folwer. Fowler went 3-for-4 on the night with three runs and an RBI. St. Joe took a 4-0 lead into the seventh inning, but Shreveport took advantage of two wild pitches to score two runs and bring the tying run to the plate. But starting St. Joe pitcher Greg Bicknell struck out Sports 3B/LF Juan Ventura to end the threat. Bicknell pitched seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits with a walk and 10 strikeouts.

Starting Saints pitcher Charlie Ruud picked up his eighth win of the season Friday night, pitching seven solid innings in which he allowed one run on five hits with no walks and six strikeouts. With the score tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Saints took advantage of an error, a walk and a wild pitch to score three runs on one hit and take a 4-1 lead. Offensively, the Saints were led by SS Ryan Priddy, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI. St. Paul now sits atop the North Division standings alone at 12-4, one game ahead of 11-5 Sioux City.

El Paso 12, Coastal Bend 7

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Diablos scored four runs to take its second lead of the game, which it would never surrender. Two innings later, holding onto a narrow one-run lead, El Paso scored five runs to end any Coastal Bend threat. Diablos 1B Walter Olmstead led the way offensively, batting in four runs and scoring once on a 3-for-5 night. For the Aviators, 1B Byron Smith hit his seventh home run of the season to highlight a 4-for-5 night. With the win, El Paso sits in second place in the South Division standings at 9-6, 2.5 games behind Fort Worth.
