Pensacola halted a late rally by Shreveport to preserve their lead and take a 5-4 win in seven innings for the first game of a doubleheader. Pensacola led 5-1 after three innings, but Shreveport chipped away with a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning to tighten the game at 5-4. Pensacola closer Hunter Davis didn't allow that trend to continue in the seventh, working around a hit and a walk to nab a save and allow Pensacola to stave off Shreveport. Two of the runs that Shreveport used to chip away came via solo longballs from 2B Juan Ventura and 1B Justin Humphries, who had two hits each on the night. 3B Trino Aguilar added a solo shot of his own for the Pelicans and finished 2-for-3.

Shreveport led 3-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth trying to split the twin bill, but Pensacola's five runs were too much to come back from, even with two runs in the seventh. Pensacola got a two-run homer from RF JD Reininger and two RBI from LF Marcos Rodriguez at the plate. Shreveport C Justin Humphries led the cause at the plate for his team, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. The two teams used a combined nine pitchers in the seven-inning game, and Pensacola's Hunter Davis got the game's final out for the save, his fifth on the year.

St. Paul 8, Sioux City 6
@ Sioux City, IA. Time: 2:31 Attendance: 2,024
W: Tony Pierce (2-0) L: Jon Koch (2-2) S: None
HR: None
St. Paul almost squandered a 6-0 lead, but the Saints scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a 8-6 victory against Sioux City. After St. Paul scored six unanswered runs, Sioux City responded with six unanswered runs of its own in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings. The game headed to the ninth knotted at 6-6, and that's when St. Paul stole the momentum back. C Marcel Longmire led off the inning with a double, moved to third on a groundout and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly. DH Alex Fonseca ripped a double later in the inning for another run. St. Paul reliever Tony Pierce slammed the door on Sioux City in the bottom of the ninth, ending any hope of another comeback. The two teams combined for 28 hits, 10 of which were doubles.

El Paso 8, St. Joe 2
@ St. Joseph, MO. Time: 3:07 Attendance: 851
W: Josh Neitz (3-3) L: Dustin Bolton (1-2) S: None
HR: None
El Paso mashed eight runs on 15 hits to cruise to an 8-2 win against St. Joe. The Diablos have now scored six or more runs in eight consecutive games. Their potent lineup was at it again, with CF Kory Drew and C Mathew Kent in charge of Wednesday's hitting performance. Both had three hits and two RBI. Every El Paso starter except one had at least one hit. That was nearly true for St. Joe, who had only two starters without hits, but St. Joe could only plate two runs on their eight hits. Josh Neitz had a solid outing for El Paso, allowing only one unearned run and striking out four, to even his record at 3-3.

Coastal Bend 4, Fort Worth 2
@ Robstown, TX. Time: 2:37 Attendance: 642
W: Tim Haines (1-3) L: Lee Gwaltney (2-1) S: Tom Atlee (7)
HR: CB - Grant Richardson (2), Stephen Morales (3)
Tim Haines turned in a six-plus inning relief appearance for the win, and Coastal Bend got home runs from Grant Richardson and Stephen Morales to beat Fort Worth 4-2. Haines entered the game in the second inning to replace Coastal Bend starter Pedro Flores. Haines lasted six and two-thirds innings, giving up only four hits and a walk while striking out six. He permitted only one run while Coastal Bend took the lead with a two-run fifth inning. The Coastal Bend fifth inning could've been more damaging, but DH Bryon Smith fouled out into a double play after a leadoff single. RF Juan Figueroa then walked in front of Richardson's two-run bomb. Tom Atlee worked the ninth inning for Coastal Bend, striking out two for his seventh save on the season.
