Lincoln 2, Gary SouthShore 1
The Lincoln Saltdogs (6-2) edged the Gary SouthShore RailCats 2-1 on Saturday night at the U.S. Steel Yard to claim the series win.
The RailsCats (2-6) struck first as DH Michael Cruz (2-for-4) hit an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth. In the seventh, 1B Sherman Graves (2-for-4) singled home RF Eddy Martinez (2-for-3) to tie the score and, in the top of the ninth, Graves doubled home Martinez for what turned out to be the game-winning run.
On the bump, reliever Carter Hope earned the win as he worked the eighth without allowing a run and reliever Brandon Cunniff picked up the save as he threw a perfect ninth.
Fargo-Moorhead 8, Cleburne 6
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks' fourth-inning rally propelled them to an 8-6 win against the Cleburne Railroaders on Saturday night.
The RedHawks (5-3) were training 3-1 heading into the fourth inning but quickly turned the game around as they loaded up the bases before recording the first out. SS Sam Dexter was hit by a pitch to score a run and CF Darian Sandford hit into a fielder's choice to score another. SS Nick Novak added an RBI single and Peter Maris closed the surge with three-run home run.
The Railroaders would pull within one run but couldn't get any closer the rest of the way. SS Nick Shumpert and C Hector Sanchez each went 2-for-4 with two runs in the game.
Kane County 8, Sioux City 5
The Kane County Cougars (6-2) raced out to a fast start and never trailed on the way to an 8-5 win Saturday night at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Stadium.
In the opening frame, LF Cornelius Randolph (2-for-4) tripled home RF Ernie De La Trinidad and then scored when 2B Steve Lombardozzi hit a sac fly to right. Later in the inning, CF Jimmy Kerrigan (3-for-5) scored on a wild pitch three pitches before DH Nick Anderson (3-for-4) hit a two-RBI double to left field. Anderson scored the final run of the rally as C B.J. Lopez bounced out.
Starting pitcher Jose Fuentes went six innings for the Cougars and allowed just three runs on eight hits while striking out eight batters in the winning effort. For the Explorers, RF Trey Martin and LF Sebastian Zawada each had a trio of hits.
Winnipeg 6, Lake Country 3
The Winnipeg Goldeyes (5-3) utilized a five-run second inning to hold of the Lake Country DockHounds on Saturday night.
The DockHounds struck first as 3B T.J. Bennett and SS Gabriel Noriega hit back-to-back solo homers in the bottom of the first. But in the top of the of the next frame, SS Raul Navarro (2-for-5) and 3B Ian Sagdal each hit two RBI doubles and then Sagdal scored as RF Max Murphy reached on an error.
Lake Country pulled one back in the fifth as LF Connor Bagnieski (2-for-3) added an RBI single but the Goldeyes had the last laugh as Reggie Pruitt Jr scored in the top of the ninth when Sagdal flew out.
Kansas City 11, Chicago 2
The Kansas City Monarchs turned 15 hits into 11 runs as they marched past the Chicago Dogs 11-2 on Saturday night.
Eight different Monarchs had hits on the night and six of them had multi-hit games. CF Willie Abreu led the way as he went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored. 3B David Thompson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while LF Joel Booker, 2B Darnell Sweeney, RF Jan Hernandez and C J. C. Escarra all added a pair of hits. The Monarchs did the bulk of their damage offensively in the bottom of the fourth where they scored six runs on eight hits after sending 11 batters to the plate.
For the Dogs, CF Charlie Tilson went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Starting pitcher Lewis Thorpe went five innings and allowed one run on two hits while striking out nine batters in the winning effort.
Sioux Falls 18, Milwaukee 10
The Sioux Falls Canaries (2-6) outdueled the Milwaukee Milkmen 18-10 in a contest where the two teams combined for 35 hits.
There were runs scored in nine of the 17 half innings played, but the Canaries did a lot of damage early as they lead 12-1 after four. Nine different Milkmen and eight Canaries recorded at least one hit on the day. There were five home runs on the day, eight doubles and a triple from RF Wyatt Ulrich (2-for-5). CF Kona Quiggle went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and C Andres Noriga went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBIs.
DH Jabari Henry added four RBIs as he went 2-for-5.
For the Milkmen, 1B Keon Barnum hit his league leading fifth home run.
