Allentown Ambassadors News Release
The Allentown Ambassadors had the tying run at second base with one out in the top of the ninth, but could not get him home and lost to Quebec 6-5 Wednesday night in Quebec.
Quebec jumped out to a 6-0 lead off Ambassador starter Nolan Fry, getting one run in the first, and then three in the third and two in the fourth. In the third, Benoit Emond led-off with a walk, then Osmani Garcia singled. Carlos Rodriguez followed with a two run double. Eddie Lantigua then walked, and John Ballon singled home Rodriguez.
In the fourth, Emond reached on an error on Ender Gonzalez with one out. Then Garcia singled and Rodriguez struck out. But Lantigua followed with a two run double to make it 6-0. Emond reached base every time, going 1-2 and reaching on the error. He also walked three times and scored six runs. Garcia finished 3-3 with two sacrifice bunts.
The Ambassadors started chipping away at the lead in the fifth. Back-to-back singles from Ryan Bordenick and Brian Macchi put two on for Greg Schmidt, who drove them both home with a double. Dan Singletary then singled, and the Ambassadors had runners at the corners with one out. But Greg Stevens lined out to right and Cedrick Harris flied out to the warning track in left to end the inning.
The Ambassadors scored another run in the eighth, and then got two more in the ninth, but fell one run short. In the ninth, Brian Macchi led off with a single, then Schmidt was hit by a pitch from Quebec closer Mark Cisar. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, but Singletary popped out. Then Stevens doubled to right, driving in two, and he was the tying run at second base. But Harris struck out and Gonzalez grounded out to end the game.
The loss is the seventh in a row for the Ambassadors, a season high. They finished their current road trip with a 1-8 record and finished the first half 16-28. Quebec finished the first half with a 21-24 mark. The sweep by Quebec was the first series sweep suffered by the Ambassadors this season. All three games were one run affairs. Quebec starter Keith Dunn picked up his fourth win of the season, with Cisar getting his fifth save. Fry took his third loss of the year. The second half begins on Friday night in Allentown, with the first of three games against the Bangor Lumberjacks.
