Allentown Ambassadors News Release

Benoit Emond scored in the bottom of the ninth inning and Quebec les Capitales beat the Allentown Ambassadors 4-3 Tuesday.

The Ambassador jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the third, on the strength of a solo home run from Ryan Bordenick in the second and a two run home run from Vic Davilla in the third.

In the bottom of the third inning Quebec got two against Ambassador starter Chris Kelly. Carlos Rodriguez singled with one out, then Eddie Lantigua walked. John Ballon hit a double to drive in Rodriguez, and then Rafael Pujols hit a sacrifice fly to score Lantigua.

Kelly was in and out of trouble throughout his outing. He stranded two runners in the first and second innings, and left the bases loaded in the fith.

After that it was the Ambassadors turn to leave runners on. The Ambassadors stranded two in the sixth, eighth, and ninth innings.

Quebec would tie the game in the seventh. Tom Klemm, who had come in and pitched a perfect sixth, had Osmani Garcia reached on a throwing error from Ender Gonzalez. Carlos Gomez then came in and walked Rodriguez. Lantigua hit a grounder to Bordenick at first, who got Rodriguez out at second, but Lantigua reached on another throwing error on Gonzalez. Garcia scored on the play.

In the ninth, Benoit Emond led off the inning with a walk off Gomez. Garcia then reached on a sacrifice bunt attempt, when Gomez and Bordenick miscommunicated and each thought the other was going to field it. Rodriguez then grounded out, moving the runners up. Lantigua was intentionally walked to load the bases and make it a force at home. Ballon then singled on a bounder into the hole at shortstop, scoring Emond and winning the game.

It was the second night in a row the Ambassadors were defeated by Quebec on a walk-off hit, and the third time in the last four games. The Ambassadors have now lost six in a row, and have a record of 16-27. Quebec improved to 20-24. Mark Cisar got his first win of the season, while Gomez took his second loss. The game was delayed an hour and a half by rain and started at 8:30. The two teams will close out the first half tomorrow night. Nolan Fry takes the mound for the Ambassadors.
