American Defenders of New Hampshire News Release
July 9th, 2003 (Nashua, NH) - The Atlantic League South Division All-Star team beat their North counterparts tonight, 2-1, in front of an above capacity crowd of 4,413 at Nashua's Historic Holman Stadium.
The visiting South scored first, breaking a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Somerset's Matt Dryer tripled to right. Two batters later, Newark OF Wil Quintana brought him in with a solid single. The following inning, back to back doubles by Atlantic City's Raul Marval and Newark's Rickey Henderson accounted for the South's second run of the evening.
The North came back in the bottom half of the fifth with a tally of their own. Nashua C Damian Sapp started things off when he was hit by a pitch, then moved to second on a passed ball. The very next batter, fellow Nashuan Joe Kilburg, drove him in with a double.
Camden's Kevin Dougherty came away with the win, pitching a scoreless third inning. Pennsylvania reliever Greg Runser took the loss for the North, allowing one run on three hits in two innings of work. Long Island OF Justin Davies contributed for the home team, finishing 1-1 with a triple and a hit by pitch after entering the game in place of teammate Derrick Gibson. Bridgeport closer Mike Guilfoyle, the league leader in saves, pitched a scoreless ninth to keep the North in the game.
After an off day tomorrow, it's a return to business as usual for the Atlantic League. The Pride open the second half of the season with a three game home series at home against Long Island on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings. Great seats are still available for all games.
