Allentown Ambassadors News Release

The Allentown Ambassadors scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back, beating the New Jersey Jackals 8-4 to snap a five game losing streak Thursday night in Allentown.

New Jersey jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first off Ambassador starter John Dillinger. A four pitch walk to lead-off batter John Anderson got the inning going. Then Joe Kerrigan doubled, and Anderson scored on a Darren Blakely groundout. Carlos Pagan then singled home Kerrigan.

But New Jersey starter Trevor Marcotte could not hold back the Ambassadors. Jason Williams got a single with one out when his groundball took a wicked hop over the head of shortstop Chris Rowan. Then Vic Davilla walked. After Brian Macchi popped out, Greg Schmidt walked to load the bases. Marlon Roche would then single, driving in Williams. Ender Gonzalez followed with a two run double, followed by a Jorge Diaz double to score Gonzalez.

The Jackals would pull within one, scoring two unearned runs in the fourth, with a Joe Kerrigan single driving in Keith Maxwell and Craig Conwawy. Conway reached with two outs on an error on shortstop Jason Williams.

The Ambassadors responded with an unearned run of their own in the bottom of the fourth, with Jorge Diaz scoring on a throwing error on catcher Scott McKee. Diaz, who reached on a walk, was stealing third when McKee threw the ball into left field. The Ambassadors added another run on a Vic Davilla solo home run to right center field, his fourteenth of the season, and another run in the seventh, when Gonzalez singled home Schmidt who had doubled.

The Jackals made it interesting in the ninth, loading the bases and bringing the tying run to plate with one out. But Justin Keeling struck out Chris Rowan and Maxwell grounded out to end the game. Dillinger got the win, he is now 6-5 and 3-0 against New Jersey. Marcotte got the loss. He is 8-4. Keeling picked up his second save. Gonzalez finished the game 3-4 with a run scored, a double, 3 RBI, and a stolen base. Kerrigan was 3-5 with a run scored, a double, 2 RBI and a stolen base in defeat. The win moves the Ambassadors record to 9-16, while the Jackals fall back to .500 at 12-12 in the second half. The two teams play tomorrow, but in New Jersey, with Mike Riley taking the mound for Allentown. He'll face Jackson Crowther.
