Bears to Host Blood Drive August 27

NEWARK, NJ, August 7 —The Newark Bears Professional Baseball Club, in conjunction with the Blood Center of New Jersey, will be holding a Blood Drive at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium in downtown Newark on August 27th, from 5-8pm. Fans are advised to arrive early as Bears players will meet and greet donors between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Everyone who donates blood will receive a free cholesterol screening and a free T-shirt.

The Blood Mobile will set up outside the main entrance of Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium at Gate C. "We look forward to holding another successful blood drive here at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium," said Bears Vice President/General Manager Chris Bryan. "We are proud to continue to host events that bring the community together for important causes."

Also on August 27TH the Bears are proud to welcome singer/songwriter Kaliah out of Jersey City. Kaliah carries the title of Ms. 1996 Hal Jackson's Talented Teen for Hudson County, NJ and the Ms. 1996 Hal Jackson's Talented Teen for the state of New Jersey. She also has experience as a background singer to Lauryn Hill, The Product G&B, LaToya Williams and Joe Buddens.

The 2003 Atlantic League Champion Newark Bears season continues with a nine-game homestand at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium beginning on Tuesday, August 12TH against the Pennsylvania Road Warriors at 7:05 PM. Among the highlights of the upcoming homestand is August 16TH when award winning singer/songwriter Jasmé Kelly will perform before the Bears game against the Long Island Ducks which begins at 6:05 PM. Kelly is a former member of the African-American Dance Ensemble and the Black Student Movement Gospel Choir and has toured as a professional actor landing roles as "Evilene" in The Wiz and "Herod" in Jesus Christ Superstar.
