July 7, 2003 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Allentown Ambassadors News Release
The Allentown Ambassadors scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game and send it into extra innings, but lost in the eleventh 6-5 to Quebec Monday night in Quebec.
Allentown jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, with Cedrick Harris scoring on a Marlon Roche single. The Ambassadors would strand two runners in the second and then not get any runs out of a bases loaded no one out situation in the third off Quebec starter Lance Franks.
And Quebec would get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth, with John Ballon hitting his sixth home run, a two run shot, to left-center off John Dillinger.
Quebec got to Dillinger for three more runs in the fifth. Peter L'Italien began the inning with a single, then Benoit Emond singled. After Osmani Garcia grounded out, moving the runners up, the Ambassadors intentionally walked Carlos Rodriguez to load the bases. Eddie Lantigua singled to center, driving in L'Italien. After Ballon hit a sacrifice fly driving in Emond, Dillinger walked Rafael Pujols to load up the bases again. He then walked Asdrupal Oropeza to drive in a run and make the score 5-1.
It stayed at 5-1 until the ninth. Greg Schmidt and Brian Macchi led off with singles, followed by a Dan Singletary double down the right field line. Schmidt scored, but Macchi was thrown out at the plate. After Greg Stevens walked, both runners would move up on a wild pitch and then Harris hit a sacrifice fly to score Singletary. Ender Gonzalez followed with a single, driving in Stevens, and Vic Davilla capped off the comeback with a double, scoring Gonzalez. Roche then lined out to Ballon at first to end the inning.
In the top of the eleventh, Gonzalez singled with two out and moved to second on a wild pitch. Quebec then intentionally walked Davilla. Roche followed with a sharp single to right, but Gonzalez was thrown out at the plate by Benoit Emond.
In the bottom of the inning, John Boker, working in his third inning of relief, walked Oropeza to start the inning. He got over to third with two out, and Wade Clark came in to pitch to Emond. Emond singled to left on an 0-2 pitch to win the game for Quebec.
The win moves Quebec to 19-24, while the Ambassadors drop to 16-26. Dan Marchetti got his second win, while Boker took his third loss. Macchi finished 4-5 in the game with a double. Roche and Gonzalez each had three hits as well. The two teams go back at it again tomorrow night, with Chris Kelly taking the mound for the Ambassadors.
