Allentown Ambassadors News Release
The Allentown Ambassadors were demolished 15-4 by the Elmira Pioneers for a series sweep for Elmira and the fifth loss in a row for Allentown Wednesday night in Allentown.
Elmira jumped all over Ambassador starter Chris Kelly, scoring three runs in the second and three runs in the third innings to take a 6-0 lead. Jason Baker had a bases loaded two RBI single in the second, followed by a Dennis Abreu sacrifice fly. In the third, Brian Jones doubled home Rafael Alvarez, then Alex Marconi followed with another double to score Jones, and Ryan Lehr singled home Marconi.
The Pioneers would get four more runs in the fifth, all charged to Kelly who left with two outs in the fifth inning. Scott Hunter was hit by a pitch with one out, then after Jones flied out, walks to Marconi and Lehr loaded the bases. Rolando Bello then drove in two with a single, ending the outing for Kelly. Jose Guerrero came in and gave up another RBI single to Baker, and a RBI single to Abreu. Hunter would hit a solo home run, his eighth, off Guerrero in the sixth to add another run.
Meanwhile Elmira starter Brian Edmondson cruised through five innings, allowing two hits and striking out five. He gave way to the bullpen with the big lead, and the Ambassadors promptly scored four runs in the sixth, with a three run home run from Vic Davilla, his thirteenth, the big blow.
But Elmira would add another four runs in the seventh off Guerrero and win 15-4. Edmondson picked up his seventh win, he is now 7-5. Kelly took the loss, he is 3-2. All the Pioneer starters finished with at least one hit, and five of them had two or more RBI. Hunter was 3-5 with two runs scored, a home run and an RBI. Baker was 3-5 with a run and three RBI. The Pioneers swept the three game series from the Ambassadors with the win, and finished the season series with Allentown with a 8-5 record. The Ambassadors have now lost four in a row. They host New Jersey tomorrow night, with John Dillinger taking the mound for Allentown. It is Home Depot night, with a pre-game concert and festivities sponsored by Home Depot.
