Amarillo Bulls News Release
AMARILLO, TX - Collin Delia stopped all 23 shots he faced, including some tough ones down the stretch, to help the Amarillo Bulls blank the Odessa Jackalopes 5-0 on Saturday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.
It was the Bulls 25th win of the season and seventh in a row. The Bulls were able to maintain a four point lead over the Texas Tornado for first place in the South Division, and three points up on the Austin Bruins for first in the overall standings. Texas and Austin were both victorious on home ice as well as the Topeka RoadRunners.
TJ Sarcona, Mike Davis, Connor Frey, Ryan Stevens and John Rey netted goals for the Bulls in the victory. Gage Christianson picked up two assists.
The Amarillo Bulls coaching staff was looking for the team to build off of the victory on Friday night versus Odessa, and that was what they were able to do. At one point in the game the Bulls limited the Jackalopes to just three shots over a 30-minute span that covered the midway mark of the first to the end of the middle period.
The Amarillo Bulls drew first blood for the 18th time this season and it came off the stick of TJ Sarcona, who fired a shot past Phil Heinle, at the 5:18 mark from Brad Stevens. Mike Davis made it 2-0 on the power play when he scored at the side of the net from John Rey and Tyler Deresky at 17:46. It was Davis' fifth goal in his last four games. Amarillo outshot Odessa 26-9 in the opening stanza.
Three more goals were added by the Bulls in the second period. Connor Frey made it 3-0 when he fired a shot from Gage Christianson and Matt Siekhaus at 3;05. The play was set up by some solid passing from Christianson and Sieckhaus.
Ryan Stevens netted his second NAHL goal just over two minutes later from TJ Sarcona and Tyler Gernhofer. The Bulls rounded out the period scoring when John Rey finished off a play from Gage Christianson and Ryan Cole at 15:08. That was Cole's sixth assist in his last six games. The Bulls again had the shot advantage 15-3 and controlled the wide margin of the play.
There was no scoring in the third period, and the Jackalopes did their best to try and ruin the shutout bid of Delia with a flurry in the final two minutes that was part of a five-on-three power play. Delia made some big saves and also got some help from a goal post as an Odessa shot rang off the cross bar.
For the second straight game the Bulls had 57 shots on goal, while limiting Odessa to just 23 including 11 in the third period. There were nine total power plays in the game with the Amarillo Bulls netting the lone goal.
Box Score - Amarillo 5 - Odessa 0
