Amarillo Bulls News Release
AMARILLO, TX - A member of the Amarillo Bulls Alumni has been named finalist for Division III Player Of The Year.
Ryan Cole, a sophomore forward of the Trinity College Bantams is one of seven players named for that award. The Anchorgage Alaska native has already captured the 2015 New England Small College Athletics Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Year.
His school, Trinity College, will play for a spot in the NCAA Division III National Championship this Weekend in Minnesota. Trinity College will face No. 2 ranked Adrian in one National Semi
Final at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Bantams advanced to the championship with a 5-1 win over Plattsburgh University. Sam Johnson had an assist in that game. Plattsburgh is where former Amarillo Gorillas Head Coach Joe Ferras played.
Cole and Johnson are joined on the Trinity College roster by TJ Sherman. Two of the three, Cole
and Sherman, were part of the Amarillo Bulls Robertson Cup National Championship team in 2013.
Cole was tabbed First Team All-NESCAC for the second straight season as Trinity placed four players on the all-conference first team.
Cole leads the league with 35 points, ranks second with 21 assists, and is tied for third with 14 goals as he helped the Bantams earn the No. 1 seed in the league tournament for the second straight season after posting a 16-1-1 record. The 2014 NESCAC Rookie of the Year becomes the first player in conference men's ice hockey history to receive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year accolades.
Cole is the second Bantam to garner the Player of the Year. He is a key component for the league's top offense that is averaging 4.24 goals per game. He has recorded at least two points in 11 games this season, with his top performance coming against Amherst on November 21 when he tallied a hat trick and an assist. Cole was named the NESCAC Player of the Week on February 16. Ryan is the son of Sheri and Brent Cole and he is majoring in economics and philosophy with a minor in legal studies.
The Amarillo Bulls will play their final regular season home game tomorrow (Tuesday) night at 7 pm when they host the Wichita Falls Wildcats at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. It's Spirit Night sponsored by Liberty Tax Service and Community Options. Fans are invited to create a poster and they could win a prize in a variety of different categories. There are $5 tickets available for Red and Silver Sections only. It's a special $2 Tuesday with $2 sodas and hotdogs.
