North Bay Battalion News Release

NORTH BAY, Ont. - Centre Mike Amadio of the North Bay Battalion has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Los Angeles Kings, the National Hockey League club announced Sunday. Terms were not disclosed.

The announcement came a day after Amadio scored his 48th goal of the Ontario Hockey League season, setting a franchise record, in a 9-2 loss to the host Niagara IceDogs.

"It's an honour to sign with the L.A. Kings organization, an unbelievable feeling," said Amadio. "I am extremely excited."

Los Angeles selected Amadio, who turns 20 on May 13, in the third round, 90th overall, of the 2014 NHL Draft.

In 65 games, Battalion captain Amadio, ninth in the OHL scoring race, has 46 assists for 94 points, the second-highest single-season total in franchise history. He ranks fourth in the league in goals, three behind leader Christian Dvorak of the London Knights.

Amadio, who has worked hard in four OHL seasons to develop his shot, plays on both the first power-play and first penalty-killing units. He has nine power-play goals this season and seven shorthanded scores, third in the league.

In 260 regular-season games, Amadio has 90 goals and 132 assists for 222 points with 78 penalty minutes. In 42 playoff games, he has scored 10 goals and earned 14 assists for 24 points with six penalty minutes.

The six-foot-one, 194-pound native of Sault Ste. Marie is fifth in career points for the Battalion franchise, which moved to North Bay from Brampton in 2013, eighth in goals, second in assists and seventh in games played.

He has doubled his goals total each season since debuting with six goals in 63 games in 2012-13. He had 12 in 64 games in 2013-14 and 24 in 68 games in 2014-15.

The Battalion took Amadio in the second round, 36th overall, of the 2012 OHL Priority Selection from the Sault Ste. Marie North Stars of the Great North Midget League after a season in which, as an underage, he was named the Northern Ontario Hockey Association's major midget player of the year.
