Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Pedro Alvarez belted a towering two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the tenth inning to lift Lynchburg to a 6-4 victory over Wilmington at City Stadium on Friday night. The Hillcats rallied from a three-run deficit to secure their 15th comeback win of the season.

The Blue Rocks got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning. Mike Moustakas drove-in run number one with an RBI single.

The Hillcats evened the score with their first run in the bottom of the second inning. Jared Keel singled in Matt Hague, who singled to start the inning.

Wilmington retook the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Paulo Orlando and Ryan Eigsti both drove-in a run with a base hit in the frame.

The Blue Rocks tacked on an additional run in the top of the eighth. After Lynchburg reliever Moises Robles issued a two-out walk to Jeff Bianchi, David Lough ripped an RBI single that plated Bianchi and gave Wilmington a 4-1 edge.

Undaunted by the three-run deficit, Lynchburg struck for three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Jose De Los Santos led off the frame with a bunt single. De Los Santos advanced to third on Jordy Mercer's single to right field. After Wilmington reliever Brandon Sisk retired Alvarez and Matt Hague, Miles Durham hit a three-run inside-the-park home run in the right-center field gap to tie the game at 4-4.

Following consecutive scoreless innings by Lynchburg relievers Mike Colla and Michael Dubee, Mercer walked to lead off the bottom of the tenth. Alvarez crushed the first pitch he saw from Wilmington's Juan Abreu over the right field wall to give the Hillcats a dramatic walk-off victory.

Dubee (1-0) earned the win for the Hillcats while Abreu (0-1) was charged with the loss for Wilmington. With the win, Lynchburg improves to 22-12 and remains atop the Carolina League's Northern Division.

Game two of this three-game series takes place on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at City Stadium. Left-hander Paul Mildren (1-3, 6.08) will get the nod for the Hillcats opposite right-hander Eduardo Paulino (1-0, 6.63) gets the start for the Blue Rocks.
