Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

Four batters into the game, Jupiter had scored a pair of runs, and the pitching staff did the rest as the Hammerheads won their sixth straight with a 2-0 victory over Charlotte.

The Hammerheads have now swept their last two opponents, and have won eight of their last nine games. With the five-hit shutout, Jupiter has held opponents off the board four times this season, the only team to accomplish the feat more than twice.

It all started with Jose Alvarez, who improved to 3-1 by holding Charlotte to four hits in six innings, striking out six and walking two. Bryan Evans allowed one hit in his two innings of relief, and A.J. Ramos earned his 7th save of the year with a perfect final inning. Both Ramos and Evans struck out two batters.

At the plate, Jupiter jumped out on Charlotte starter Drew Leary, who was making just his third professional appearance. Leary hit lead-off batter Danny Pertusati, and gave up a double to Dallas Poulk to give Jupiter a run just two batters into the game. Poulk stole third base and came home on Kyle Jensen's sacrifice fly.

It is the 30th run batted in by Jensen, the most in the Florida State League. The slugger's 1-for-3 day at the plate actually lowered his average to .374, the third-best mark in the league. Jensen also leads the league in home runs, total bases and slugging percentage.

For Alvarez, the six shutout innings lower his ERA to 1.85, the seventh-lowest in the league and the best among lefties. The shutout lowers Jupiter's team ERA to 3.23, the third-best in the league.

The Hammerheads will go for their third straight sweep in a split series against the Miracle. The teams will play a pair in Fort Myers, break for Mother's Day, and then play a single game in Jupiter on Monday. The series opener is a southpaw showdown, as Jupiter's Edgar Olmos is slated to face Andrew Albers on Friday.
