March 30, 2023 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release

This week's alumni update focuses on former Capitols goaltender Garrett Metcalf. Metcalf played with Madison for parts of two seasons, which amounted to 60 games played for the Salt Lake City native. He has since went pro playing with the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL.

Metcalf first hit the ice for Madison during the team's first season back in the USHL in 2014-15. He had a .911 save percentage in his first season, which was followed up by a .907 his second year. His stellar play earned Metcalf his way to UMass-Lowell. He would play four games in his first seaosn there before making his way to Mercyhurst for two seasons. With Mercyhurst, Metcalf played in 43 games over two seasons with above a .900 in both years. Following his second year at Mercyhurst, Metcalf made his way to Long Island University for the inception of their division one program during the 2020-21 season.

Following that year with the LIU Sharks, Metcalf turned pro. He made his way to his home state in Utah where he made an impact right away. Playing in 9 games, he recorded a 2.33 GAA and a .915 save percentage. Since his debut, he has stayed with Utah over the next two seasons leading up to today. He was called up to the American Hockey League's Lehigh Valley Phantoms last season on loan for four games. Those games were not his last stint in the AHL as he played in five games with San Diego of the same league this season.

The current version of the Capitols are back on the ice this weekend at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena. Tickets for the team's games on Saturday and Sunday can be found at tickets.madcapshockey.com or by calling the front office at 608-257-2277.
