Madison Capitols News Release

Today's alumni update focuses on former Caps forward Cade Borchardt. The Minnesota native now suits up for Minnesota State University as one of the leaders on the team. Borchardt's shoulder is a little heavier this season than in season's past in Mankato as the former Capitol wears a 'C' for his Mavericks.

Borchardt played his pre-junior career with his high school in Burnsville, Minnesota. In his senior season, he helped lead his Burnsville Blaze to the state hockey tournament recording 31 points combined between regular and postseason play. Following his final season at the high school level, Borchardt made his way to play with the Brookings Blizzard in the NAHL. He put up 53 points in 59 games for the Blizzard during the 2016-17 season. His performance earned his name being called on draft day in the USHL the following summer.

The Capitols selected Borchardt in the second round of the 2017 Phase II Draft. He scored 42 points with the Caps in his one season with Madison playing in 59 games. After his time with the Caps, he won a Clark Cup with Sioux Falls the following season.

Borchardt has since made his way to Minnesota State University to play with Mavericks. Although his time in Mankato started slowly, Borchardt has exploded onto the scene since the start of the 2020-21 season. He has recorded 81 points over his time with the Mavericks, all coming in the last three seasons. Led by head coach Mike Hastings, MSU has made it to two consecutive NCAA Frozen Four appearances including a trip to the national championship game in 2022. At the start of this season, Borchardt was named captain of the Mavericks.
