Roanoke Dazzle News Release
ROANOKE, Va. â Lenny Stokes posted a career high 36 points leading the Asheville Altitude to a 113-110 victory over the Roanoke Dazzle, at the Roanoke Civic Center in tonight's NBDL action.
Asheville lost their leading scorer Brandin Knight to an injury with 3:25 left in the second quarter, sending the Altitude into the half down by six.
"They didn't even want to play the second half," said Asheville Head Coach Joey Meyer. "I told them you know what B. Knight would want you to do right now. That was really an emotional thing for our players, that's our leader."
Coach Meyer's words had an impact. His players came out of the third quarter scoring 37 points. Asheville would finish the match-up with a total of four players in double digit figures, Kirk Penney contributed 20, Ron Slay poured in 18 and Tim Bowers had another 16.
Both teams traded baskets throughout the fourth, with 10 lead changes the victory was anyone's.
"Sometimes when adversity strikes you find out what you're made of," said Roanoke Head Coach Kent Davison. "It was two pretty good teams battling down to the wire. We just didn't make the correct decisions at the end of the game and turned it over two times in a row."
Roanoke (13-9) shot a blistering 58.3% from the field (42-of-72) while Asheville (15-9) trailed slightly with 57% (45-of-79). The game was won at the free throw line, with Asheville out shooting Roanoke 69.7% to 62.2%
With 4 of the top 5 scorers in the NBDL the Dazzle players posted more than respectable numbers. Matt Carroll led the charge with 25, Sung-Yoon Bang had 23 off the bench and Cory Alexander had an unselfish 20. Terrence Shannon put up 19 while Isiah Victor notched another 12 for the Dazzle.
Roanoke faces Asheville again, January 31 at the Roanoke Civic Center, game time 7 p.m. For more information log on to www.nbdl.com.
