Altherr Named FSL Player of the Week

The Florida State League announced Monday that Threshers outfielder Aaron Altherr was named the Player of the Week for the period of August 19 through August 25, 2013.

The 22-year-old outfielder has excelled in his first season in Clearwater, with a league-best 36 doubles. He has also posted 54 extra-base hits (2nd in FSL), a team-best 69 RBI (7th in FSL), and a terrific 82.1% stolen base success rate. He leads the team in stolen bases with 23, and his six triples are tied for second among FSL players.

Altherr has logged time at all three outfield positions this seasons for Clearwater. In the offseason, he lives in Avondale, Arizona. Aaron played basketball in high school in addition to baseball, and his father, Frank, played soccer professionally in Germany.

Hit .291 vs LHP (41-141) as opposed to .233 vs RHP (.65-279)... Was on DL with a left quad strain, 7/26-8/17... Batted .351 (27-77) in 18 July games before being transferred to Williamsport, 7/22... Named Phillies Minor League Player of the Week, 7/19-25... Following the season, was named 10th-best prospect in Phillies minor league system by Baseball America...2009: Began pro career with GCL Phillies... Selected by Phillies in 9th round of June 2009 draft... 2009 graduate of Agua Fria HS (AZ).
