Montreal Alouettes News Release

One day removed of an intense practice which had contact on full display, Alouettes players got a bit of a break on Thursday during the fifth day of 2013 training camp on the campus of Bishop's University.

Players practised just once on Thursday morning, without pads, before spending the rest of the day's workout in a long stretching period.

Coach Dan Hawkins' squad will jump back on the field Friday for a pair of practices before scrimmaging on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. CFL officials will be on hand at Coulter Field for the occasion.

Devine blocking, Hebert adapting

Since the beginning of training camp, Noel Devine has shown that he's not only fast, but also a competent blocker, stuffing opposing linebackers in full contact drills when tasked with protecting the quarterback.

Kyries Hebert, who was moved from safety to the WILL linebacker position, is taking the transition in stride as he batted down a pass from quarterback Anthony Calvillo while also stopping opposing running backs on a few occasions during the day's workouts.

Backup quarterback Josh Neiswander was able to show off the strength and precision of his throwing arm on a few occasions since the start of camp and again on Thursday completed a long pass to receiver Wallace Wright, who ran straight for the end zone, a carbon copy of a play that also happened on Wednesday.

Invited by the Alouettes, a number of CIS and CEGEP coaches were also on-site for Thursday's practice, taking advantage of the opportunity to exchange strategies, philosophies and drills with members of the Alouettes coaching staff.
