
Alouettes Sign Five New Players

Montreal, Feb. 2, 2011 - Montreal Alouettes' Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp announced today that five new players, all imports, have signed contracts with the team. They are Remene Alston Jr., Jermaine McGhee, Buster Davis, Paul Smith and Reggie Smith.
Remene Alston Jr. (5'8'', 200 lbs), a running back, helped the Oregon Ducks reach the BCS Championship game this past January. He played 28 career games with the Ducks between 2006 and 2010, recording 691 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 139 carries and 26 receiving yards on three catches.
Paul Smith (6'1'', 208 lbs), quarterback, spent one year on the Jacksonville Jaguars' practice roster after becoming the all-time leading passer for the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes where he passed for 10,936 yards and threw 83 touchdown passes. In 2007, he led Tulsa to a 10-4 record and the GMAC Bowl win. He was also named the Conference USA player of the year that season.
Buster Davis (5'9'', 251 lbs), a linebacker, was a third round draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2007. He then spent some time with the Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans. He recorded 24 career tackles in the NFL. In college, he played four seasons with the Florida State Seminoles. In his senior year, he recorded at least six tackles in every 12 games he started. He played with the Hartford Colonials of the UFL last season.
Reggie Smith (5'11'', 195 lbs), a wide receiver, played 11 games with the Elizabeth City State Vikings in 2009, leading the CIAA with 1,285 combined yards and a 20.2 punt return average, returning three for touchdowns. He also recorded 410 yards and three touchdowns on 20 catches and registered a 37-yard touchdown run.
Jermaine McGhee (6'2'', 200 lbs), a defensive end, spent some time with the Kansas City Chiefs (2008) and Buffalo Bills (2009) after playing for the Prairie View Panthers in the NCAA. He spent last season with the Sacramento Mountain Lions in the UFL.
