Montreal Alouettes News Release
Montreal, February 3, 2004 - Reaching Out to Children is a program founded by Montreal Alouettes all-star defensive back Barron Miles. This program will see 7 players venture into 33 Quebec schools until April 30th to speak with the youth of Quebec in regards to their futures and the obstacles that face adolescents.
The players offer an unbiased ear for the children to share their feelings, and in turn our players will share their insight in hopes of helping them become critical thinkers and decision makers. In addition, the Als basketball team will play the staff/faculty team in a friendly game.
The lineup features All-Stars Barron Miles, Anthony Calvillo, Bryan Chiu, Uzooma Okeke and Kevin Johnson. Other players such as Brad Collinson, Sylvain Girard, Luke Fritz, Stéphane Fortin and Paul Lambert will all also be taking part in various school visits. A minimum of seven players will be attending each visit.
Players are currently following an intensive training program with world-renowned Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Ron Clavier. Dr Clavier specializes in dealing with youth and adolescents. Players continue their training on February 4, 2004. Members of the media are welcome to attend.
"I feel that the Alouettes players are in a wonderful position to have a positive influence on the children. With a little extra attention, they can help raise a child's self-esteem and help them deal with issues they are faced with, we feel as though we can make a difference. We are going into the schools to discuss topics that are relative to the students' success in the classroom and with their peers," explained Barron Miles.
#31 BARRON MILES - Defensive Back (All-Star - 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003) Barron Miles holds a degree in early childhood psychology from the University of Nebraska.
