Montreal Alouettes News Release
Montreal - The Montreal Alouettes will play at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium on Saturday, September 2, at 7 p.m. ET against the BC Lions (RDS, TSN, 98.5fm, TSN690).
It will be Lions quarterback Vernon Adams Jr.'s first start in Montreal since he was traded to B.C. last year. Defensive lineman Nick Usher will also play agaisnt his former teammates after three seasons with the Alouettes.
This is the second time these two teams will compete this season. Last July, the Alouettes lost 35-19 in British Columbia. Last year, at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium, Montreal won 31-10.
The BC Lions (7-4-0) are going through a rough patch. They lost their last two games (against Hamilton and Saskatchewan). Jason Maas' squad will try to prove that their defeat in Winnipeg was a simple misstep. Montreal has a 3-2-0 record at home and they are 6-4-0 this season.
Game notes
All-star receiver Greg Ellingson will play his first career game with the Als. Danny Maciocia acquired him last February on the free agent market. In his career, he totaled five seasons of over 1,000 yards. Defensive back Ciante Evans is also expected to be back in action. In just three games, he has recorded three interceptions. Offensive lineman Philippe Gagnon will be in uniform, having been removed from the injured list. Defensive lineman Vincent Desjardins, who was re-signed by the team earlier this week, will make his 2023 debut as well.
Tribute to their alumni
The Montreal Alouettes will pay tribute to their alumni who will be welcomed into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in the coming days. This tribute will take place at halftime of the game. The team will host the five former Alouettes that will be inducted this year, as John Bowman, Josh Bourke, Lloyd Fairbanks, Jacques Dussault and Larry Smith will be honoured at Percival-Molson Memorial Stadium.
The official induction ceremony of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame will take place in Hamilton on Friday, September 15.
