Alouettes Extend Ryan Bomben's Contract

November 30, 2012 - Canadian Football League (CFL) - Montreal Alouettes News Release

Montreal, November 30, 2012 - The Montreal Alouettes announced on Friday that the team has extended the contract of non-import guard Ryan Bomben.

Bomben (6'4, 300 lbs.) has been signed to a new three-year deal with Montreal following his breakout season. The Alouettes found an unconventional target in the versatile offensive linemen from Burlington, ON who also lined up as a tight end, hauling in five receptions for 33 yards last season.

The third-year guard scored his first CFL touchdown in Week 18, catching a five-yard pass from Anthony Calvillo at the back of the end zone in a home-field victory over the Edmonton Eskimos.

"Ryan is one of the most versatile big men in the CFL. As you can see we have used him in a variety of ways," said Alouettes General Manager Jim Popp. "The sky is the limit and he has the potential to be a dominating player."

Bomben dressed in all 18 regular season games for the second-straight season in 2012 and was part of an Alouettes' offensive line which allowed just 30 sacks, tied for fewest in the league. The 25-year-old also helped the Alouettes offence rank first in the CFL in touchdowns scored and second in most passing yards. Bomben also made an impact on special teams, returning a kickoff for 11 yards.

The Alouettes' fourth round pick (31st overall) at the 2010 CFL Canadian Draft, Bomben won the Grey Cup in his first season with the team that year.

Nugent's contract extended

The club also announced that it has extended coach Brendan Nugent's contract for the 2013 season.

Nugent, who is responsible for quality control, worked closely with the offence as well as special teams last season after spending five years with the William & Mary University Tribe prior to his arrival in Montreal in 2012.
