
Almonte, Paxton Help Generals to Second Straight Win

JACKSON, TENN. - The Generals won Friday 5-3 over the Montgomery Biscuits at Pringles Park, evening the series at 2-2. Jackson picked up another quality start from the rotation as James Paxton surrendered just one run over six innings pitched.
The Biscuits scored first in the top of the second and went up 1-0 on a two out RBI double from Mark Thomas.
The Generals tied and took the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Denny Almonte doubled home Johermyn Chavez to tie the game at 1-1. Then, Stefen Romero plated Almonte with a sacrifice fly to right. Jackson led 2-1 after three innings.
The Generals pushed the lead to 5-1 in the fifth inning. The first run of the inning was scored by Almonte on a groundout from Rich Poythress. Kalian Sams reached on an infield single allowing Chih-Hsien Chiang and Brad Miller to score.
James Paxton left the game after 6.0 innings pitched. He allowed a run on 4 hits, walking 3 and striking out 4 in the quality start.
In the seventh, Montgomery picked up a 2-run home run from Hak-Ju Lee against Jackson reliever Mauricio Robles to trim the deficit to 5-3. That would be as close as the Biscuits would get.
Yoervis Medina earned his first save of the season with a perfect eighth and ninth innings, striking out 4.
Denny Almonte, Brad Miller, Chih-Hsien Chiang and Kalian Sams recorded two hits each for the Generals Friday.
The Generals and Biscuits will play the rubber match of the series on Saturday night, with first pitch at 6:05 p.m. LHP Anthony Fernandez (4-1, 2.95) pitches for the Generals against RHP Nick Barnese (1-0, 5.06) for Montgomery. Saturday is Pat Summitt Apreciation Night, Local Fire and Police Department Appreciation Night and Hunger Games Night. Also their will be a postgame rock fireworks show.
