Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - Kane County Cougars starting pitcher Ben Allison threw 7.2 innings of shutout baseball, leading the Cougars to a 3-0 win and series victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries on Sunday afternoon at Northwestern Medicine Field.

In his second straight quality start, Allison (3-3) retired the first seven hitters he faced and continued to cruise throughout the afternoon. The Batavia, IL native racked up six strikeouts against just two walks across 7.2 innings of work. It was the second time this season that Allison tossed at least seven shutout innings at home, as he went through eight scoreless frames against Gary on May 17th.

After being held without a run for the first three innings by Sioux Falls (10-24) starter Angel Landazuri (1-4), the Cougars (17-16) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. To lead off the frame, Cornelius Randolph hit a line drive single into right-center field. Following Randolph's single, Jimmy Kerrigan blasted a two-run homer over the left field fence to put the Cougars up 2-0.

Kane County added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. Kerrigan led off the frame with a single before stealing second base. Two batters later, BJ Lopez knocked Kerrigan in with a single back through the middle to make it 3-0.

In relief of Allison, Ryan Richardson recorded the final four outs of the ballgame to earn the save. It was Richardson's second save of the season.

Following an off day on Monday, the Cougars will hit the road for a 10-game road trip beginning with three games against the Gary SouthShore Railcats. Kane County will return home for a three-game series against the Lake County DockHounds beginning Friday, July 1st. For tickets call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com/tickets.
