AlleyCats introduce Believing in Reading program

October 21, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Indiana AlleyCats News Release

Anderson, IN. The ABA Indiana Alley Cats have introduced a new reading program "Believing in Reading." This is an elementary school program designed to promote the importance of reading. The program will provide identified Anderson, Indiana area elementary schools with an Alley Cat player, Alley Cat cheerleader or Alley Cat staff to read to students and explain the importance of reading and discuss the "Believing in Reading" philosophy.

According to Reggie Jones, co-owner of the Alley Cats, "We believe that reading leads to empowerment; critical thinking skills developed through reading can result in an empowered student. We believe it leads to opportunities; the ability to read has economic consequences and literacy can nurture a student's intellectual, ethical and social development. It leads to knowledge; reading transforms information into knowledge and a well-read, highly knowledgable student will produce an strong and enlightened citizen. And we believe it is reading is the foundation of life as it paves the way for success in a student's educational career which can build self-confidence and motivate a child to set high expectations for life. We're really looking forward to working closely with the Anderson school system to maximize the potential of "Believing in Reading."
