Alley Cats Complete Sweep Over Division Leading Patroons

Albany, NY (January 11, 2007) - The Indiana Alley Cats made it a clean sweep on the road against the first place Albany Patroons by winning their sixth game in a row, 111-109. They also were able to pick up 6 quarter points in the victory. The Alley Cats forced 25 Albany turnovers and shot 52% from the field, including 57% from beyond the arc. Indiana improved to 11-8 on the season.

The Alley Cats were able to grab the lead at the end of one, 29-27. Indiana went ice cold in the second quarter, scoring only 11 points. They lost the quarter 28-11 and trailed 52-40 at the half. Shaun Fountain led them with 9 points in the first half. Newly acquired Chris Sockwell led all scorers in the half with 13 points for Albany.

Indiana was able to come out in the third quarter and make a run. Thanks to Fountain and J.J. Sullinger scoring 10 points each in the quarter, the Alley Cats were able to win the quarter and trail by only 2 going into the fourth. The final quarter was a tight one that featured 5 ties and 4 lead changes. Indiana took a five point lead on a three-pointer by Sullinger with 2:20 left in the game. The Patroons trailed by 2, but had the ball with 30 seconds left. Erick Barkley was able to strip T.J. Thompson and get fouled, where he went to the line and sank two free throws. On the very next possession, Fountain was able to pick Sockwell's pocket. He also drained his two free throws to give the Alley Cats a 6 point lead with 14 seconds to go. Albany wasn't finished yet though. Jamario Moon nailed a three-pointer to trim the lead to only 3. DeAndre Walker calmly stepped to the line and knocked down two free throws to seal the victory for Indiana.

The guard-play continued to carry the Alley Cats. Sullinger was a dominant force for Indiana all night long and finished with 34 points, including 17 of them in the final quarter, to go along with a team-high 8 rebounds. Fountain had another great game with 26 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Barkley tallied 19 points and 4 assists, as well as his huge steal in the final minute of play. Carl Edwards, in only his second game back from injury, put up 18 points and 5 rebounds.

Thompson paced Albany with 24 points, one below his league best average. Sockwell had a nice debut for the Patroons, finishing with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Reggie Jessie just missed a double-double (17 points and 9 assists). Three other Patroons finished in double figures. Lucious Jordan had a game-high 9 rebounds. Albany fell to 12-5 on the season with the loss.

The Alley Cats return home to host the Pittsburgh Xplosion on Sunday at 3:00.
