Amarillo Bulls News Release

Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Bulls announced that the team's captain and leading scorer, Matt Allen, has committed to play Division I hockey at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Allen, who was named the captain of the Bulls in his second season with the team, has made a name for himself as a fan-favorite for his resilient playstyle and his southern roots, hailing from Minco, OK. His numbers, this season, have lifted Allen into great company atop the North American Hockey League ranks. Allen leads Amarillo with 55 points on 24 goals and 31 assists this season.

"I'm so grateful for this opportunity, and I believe this is the best fit for me," said Allen. "The school itself, is a first class, and I know it's going to set me up to have success in life. The hockey program is outstanding, and it's one I've always dreamed about being a part of. I'd like to thank Coach Russo and Coach Lewis for everything that they have done for me. I also want to thank my family for always supporting me."

Allen, who Head Coach Rocky Russo has praised for his leadership from his first day with the Bulls, showcased his talent at the 2020 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in Attleboro, MA earlier this month, scoring five goals in two games, including a four-goal performance in the opening exhibition.

"We are extremely proud of Matt and are excited for him and his family for his commitment to the University of Massachusetts Lowell," said Russo. "It is an excellent fit for him academically and athletically, and he will be a tremendous addition to Coach Bazin's program. Matt has been an incredible leader for us this season, he sets an example for his teammates every day, and leads the way on and off the ice. We expect that his impact at Lowell will be the very same."
