Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (April 23)-The Texas Brahmas storybook season came to an end in Game 7 of the Northern Conference Finals Wednesday evening in a 3-2 final against the CHL reigning champions the Colorado Eagles.
The Eagles were able to strike first in the opening period as left wing Seth Leonard scored on Brahmas goaltender Brett Jaeger for his fifth goal in the postseason on the Eagles fifth shot of the night at the 6:29 mark.
The Colorado offense did not give up there when six minutes later Ryan Tobler fired a shot beating Jaeger to put the Eagles up 2-0 going into the first intermission. Colorado outshot Texas 11-10.
In the second period, the Eagles hot streak continued when Scott Polaski scored their third goal on the powerplay within four minutes of play ending Jaeger's evening. David Cacciola came in relief as Jaeger stopped 13-16 shots.
Both teams had offsetting penalties at the 5:40 mark putting each team skating four aside when Brahmas defenseman Justin Kinnunen took a feed from forwards Jordan Cameron and Grant Jacobsen to put the puck past Sebastien Laplante to make it 3-1.
Texas and Colorado continued to play hard when the Brahmas received relief in the form of a powerplay due to hard work from forward Mark Carragher. Texas took advantage of the extra man as Scott Sheppard scored at the 17:01 mark on the powerplay. It was Sheppard's team leading 13th goal of the postseason.
Colorado took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission and outshot Texas 15-13. The Eagles went 1-4 on the powerplay and the Brahmas went 1-3.
With only one shot back from a tied hockey game Texas started the third in penalty killing mode for the first but were able to kill it off. As well as Cacciola played, Laplante matched it with equally tantalizing saves in the third leaving the period scoreless and the end to the Brahmas amazing playoff run.
Colorado will now go on the Ray Miron President Cup's Finals to face either Arizona or Laredo.
Despite the loss, the Brahmas had one of its best seasons in team history. Texas Brahmas players, staff and management wish to thank all of their loyal fans for their incredible run in 2007-08 and look forward to great things to come in the future.
