
Alex Lyon Signs with Philadelphia Flyers

Ralston, NE - After weeks of negotiations, former Omaha Lancers goaltender and Yale University standout, Alex Lyon, has signed an entry-level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers. By signing, Lyon will forgo his senior season with the Bulldogs.
In his junior season this past year, the 23-year-old led the entire country with a 1.64 goals-against average and was tied for second with a .936 save percentage. Lyon helped Yale reached the NCAA East Regional semifinals.
In a total of three seasons at Yale, Lyon recorded a 1.88 goals-against average, .931 save percentage, along with 50 total wins and 15 shutouts. All of those are school records. The 6-foot-1 goaltender is a 2016 finalist for the Mike Richter Award, given to the nation's most outstanding goalie.
The Baudette, MN native played two seasons with the Omaha Lancers, averaging a 2.71 goals-against average and .913 save percentage in 98 games played. In the 2011-2012 season, Lyon was named to the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game along with the USHL All-Rookie Team. In his final year with the Lancers, Lyon was selected to the 2012-13 USHL Second All-Star Team.
The Lancers return home Friday night in the final game at Ralston Arena this season. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. CT against the Tri-City Storm on Fan Appreciation Night presented by Nebraska Lottery.
