Albuquerque Falters Down the Stretch in Loss to Erie

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - Marcus Hubbard scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Albuquerque, but the T-Birds stumbled down the stretch and ultimately fell to the Erie Bayhawks, 101-97, on Friday night.

Trey Gilder scored 20 points and added 7 rebounds in his third game for Albuquerque. Antoine Agudio added 18 points and Shane Edwards chipped in 15 for the T-Birds.

Albuquerque opened the game strong, and led 24-17 at the end of the first quarter. The team pushed the lead to 12 at intermission, holding the Bayhawks to just 32.6% shooting in the first half.

Erie came out hot in the second half, outscoring the T-Birds 30-16 in the third quarter. The Bayhawks took their first lead since the game's opening minutes with 1:25 remaining in the period, pulling ahead 62-61.

The Bayhawks pushed the lead to 14 with 7:02 remaining in the fourth quarter, and the T-Birds were unable to battle back down the stretch.

Erie was paced by John Bryant's 28 points and 13 rebounds. Blake Ahearn added 25 and Mike Gansey scored 20 for the Bayhawks.

The Thunderbirds led by as many as 12 in the first half. The game featured three ties and five lead changes.

The Albuquerque Police Department took on the Albuquerque Fire Department in an exhibition game following the T-Birds action.

The team will be in action again tomorrow night when they host the Los Angeles D-Fenders. This will be the team's 2009-10 home finale, and the team will be holding fan appreciation night in addition to military appreciation night during the game. The team will also be celebrating St. Patrick's Day, so fans are encouraged to wear green.
