Maine Picks Up a Game on Conference Leading Iowa

PORTLAND, ME - As the top two teams in the NBA D-League East Conference clashed, Morris Almond led the Maine Red Claws (24-15) to a 106-96 win over the Iowa Energy (31-11) at the Portland Expo Building in front of a capacity crowd.

After Iowa went on an 8-0 run to take a four-point advantage midway through the fourth quarter, Maine answered back, scoring 15 of the next 17 points in the game to take a 97-88 lead with just over a minute remaining in regulation.

Almond tallied a double-double for the home team, scoring 21 points while pulling down 16 boards in the game. Teammate Paul Davis powered his way to a double-double himself scoring 12 points and grabbing 14 rebounds while blocking four shots. Russell Robinson paced the team scoring 18 points while dishing out five assists.

Curtis Stinson lit up the box score for the Energy leading all scorers with 25 points while tallying 10 assists, four steals and six rebounds. Teammate Shy Ely also posted a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.

With the win, Maine pulls to 5.5 games behind the Conference and league-leading Energy with three games in hand. The two teams will meet again on Sunday at the Portland Expo at 5:00 PM. The Red Claws will hold a food drive in conjunction with Good Shepherd Food Bank. All fans bringing a nonperishable food item or making a financial donation to Good Shepherd will have the chance to win Red Claws team-signed items.
