Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Albuquerque, NM - Cooler temperatures led to fairly unusual hitting conditions to Isotopes Park on Thursday night. A rain delay of 58 minutes prior to first pitch dipped the temperature to 69 degrees, and the home team mustered just three hits in a 4-1 loss to the Las Vegas Aviators.
Albuquerque's bats were cooled off after scoring 42 runs on 46 hits over the prior three contests, all wins.
In the bottom of the first inning, Wynton Bernard walked, stole second base and advanced to third on an error. With two outs, Carlos Pérez doubled home Bernard with the first run of the night.
Albuquerque starter Ashton Goudeau did not allow a run through the first three innings of the contest. In the fourth, he allowed a leadoff double and walk before striking out the next two hitters. However, Nate Mondou came through with a two-out RBI single to tie it at a run apiece.
Goudeau turned in his best start as an Isotope, pitching five innings of three-hit, one-run ball with two walks and five strikeouts.
Ty Blach worked a perfect sixth but ran into trouble in the seventh. Following an error, single and fielder's choice (where an out was not recorded) to load the bases, Kevin Smith doubled home two runs to put Las Vegas in front 3-1. Cal Stevenson's sacrifice fly made it 4-1 at the stretch.
The Isotopes bats were silenced by the trio of Parker Dunshee (six innings), Garrett Acton (two innings) and Domingo Tapia (one inning). They combined to allow just one run, three hits, two walks and two hit batters while striking out 11. Albuquerque mustered just seven baserunners and never had multiple on base at the same time.
Topes Scope: - Albuquerque was held to one run for the sixth time this season and first since May 22 at Salt Lake. They have also been shut out twice.
- The Isotopes recorded three hits, tied for their season-low (seven total times). It last happened June 30 vs. Sugar Land.
- Albuquerque was held to one run or fewer against Las Vegas in a nine-inning game for the first time since a 12-0 loss in Nevada on July 13, 2018.
- Bernard failed to record a hit in a game he has started for just the 15th time out of 74 contests. He did steal his 26th base, the most for an Isotope in a season since Joc Pederson recorded 30 in 2014. It was his 49th total steal with Albuquerque, which is good for fifth in team history on the all-time leaderboard.
- Goudeau completed five innings for the second time this season (July 13 at Sacramento). It was the first time he went five frames with one or fewer runs allowed since he pitched five shutout innings for Louisville on May 11, 2021 at Gwinnett.
- Goudeau allowed only three hits, tied for the third-fewest by a Topes starter who has gone at least five innings this year.
- Dunshee was the eighth opposing starter to allow one or fewer runs in five or more innings this season.
- Elehuris Montero extended his on-base streak at Triple-A to 30 games when he was hit by a pitch in the sixth.
- Jordan Sheffield did not allow a run for just the third time out of his last 11 appearances.
- The delay was the seventh of the season for the Isotopes, totaling five hours and 31 minutes.
On Deck: Albuquerque will host Las Vegas in the fourth contest of a six-game series Friday at 7:05 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Corey Oswalt is scheduled to start for the Isotopes while right-hander Adrian Martinez is slated for the Aviators.
