
Albuquerque acquires Brooks

GREENVILLE, S.C., February 2 - The Albuquerque Thunderbirds have acquired guard Darren Brooks from the NBA Development League available player pool. Brooks fills the roster spot vacated when Joe Shipp left the team.
Brooks, 6-3, played for the Dallas Mavericks 2005 summer league team before going to the Netherlands to play professionally with MPC/Capitals Groningen. In six games he averaged 4.2 points and 3.2 rebounds.
The Missouri Valley Conference player of the year and defensive player of the year in 2005, Brooks averaged 15.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.6 steals in 35 games as a senior at Southern Illinois. He averaged 16.2 points and 5.8 rebounds as a junior.
Brooks is expected to be in uniform when the Thunderbirds play at Austin tonight.
Shipp played in 24 games (22 starts) for Albuquerque, averaging 34.4 minutes, 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists.
