TULSA, Okla., February 2, 2006 - The Tulsa 66ers basketball team is partnering with the Tulsa Housing Authority (THA) to host a youth clinic on Saturday, February 4 at the Comanche Park Recreation Center located at 3608 N. Quaker St. in Tulsa. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and will cover a wide variety of shooting, dribbling and passing skills, in addition to stressing the importance of education and community involvement to the participants.

"The Youth Clinic Partnership with the Tulsa 66ers is of utmost importance to us," said Roy Hancock, Executive Director for the Tulsa Housing Authority.

"It provides the Tulsa Housing Authority a superb opportunity to supply positive role models to the children of our community. This partnership will offer constructive and rewarding social possibilities for our children," said Hancock.

The Tulsa Housing Authority and the Tulsa 66ers are committed to helping youth strive for excellence in the classroom and community as well as in the athletic arena. The THA Basketball Youth Clinic is free to participate in and all youth from the Tulsa area are invited.

Both boys and girls will get a chance to learn from Tulsa 66ers players and head coach Joey Meyer.

"This is a great event for both us and the community. We enjoy having some fun with the kids while helping them improve their game on and off the court," Meyer said.

All participants will have the opportunity for autographs by the Tulsa 66ers players and coaches as well as a special appearance by Routie the Roadrunner.

As part of the effort to increase off-the-court improvement, the Tulsa Housing Authority and Tulsa 66ers have combined to create the "THA/Tulsa 66ers On-Point Program" for youth who are members of the Northgate, Apache Manor or Comanche Park subdivisions. Those youth will be eligible for an incentive program which will be implemented to challenge youth to increase their reading habits, maintain positive behavior and also participate in various community service programs. After the youth complete the requested tasks, they will be eligible for many rewards, including tickets to 66ers home games.

The basketball clinic is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Robin Burchfield, Tulsa Housing Authority Director of Resident Services, at (918) 581-5732, or Tom Wagganer, Tulsa 66ers VP of Sales, at (918) 585-8444.
