Albany River Rats News Release
ALBANY, NY- Jamie McBain notched the game-winner with 4:02 remaining in Regulation, just 1:08 after Konstantin Pushkarev had knotted the game for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and the River Rats held on for a 3-2 victory in Game 2 of their best-of-seven, East Division semi-final series on Friday night at the Times Union Center.
The rookie defenseman gathered a feed from Drayson Bowman and curled around the left faceoff circle before firing a strike to the top right corner, just beneath the iron for his second goal of the Playoffs.
Nick Dodge had his second straight two-point night for the River Rats, tallying a go-ahead goal in the third period and an assist on Albany's first strike. The second-year forward was on track to play the hero for the second game in a row midway through the third period, when he gave Albany its first lead of the game on a sharp wrist shot from the slot at 10:00. Pushkarev, however, tied the game at 14:50, gloving a lofted pass from Joe Vitale out of the air and setti9ng it on the ice quickly enough to smack it by River Rats goalie Justin Peters at the doorstep.
Eric Tangradi drew first blood for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at 15:12 of the opening period with a nifty backhand snap-shot to the top shelf. Albany drew even in the second period during four-on-four action at 7:17, when Dodge fed a two-on-one pass to Chris Terry for a one-timer into the vacated side of the net.
Peters stopped 27-of-29 shots faced in the game to earn the win, as Albany staked a 2-0 lead in the first round series. Penguins goalie John Curry allowed three goals on 32 shots and took the loss. The River Rats out-shot Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 32-29 in the contest and went 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Penguins went 0-for-2 on the man-advantage.
Game's 3 and 4 of the East Division semi-final series will be played at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre, PA. on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. and on Monday at 7:05 p.m. The series returns to the Times Union Center for Game 5 on Wednesday, April 21st (if necessary). 2010 Calder Cup playoff packages are now on sale at the River Rats executive offices at the Times Union Center, by calling (518) 487-2244 or by logging onto www.albanyriverrats.com.
