Albany Conquest training camp to open in one week

Albany, N.Y., March 18, 2004 – The Albany Conquest, back-to-back Northeast Division Champions of arenafootball2, will open its training camp on March 25 at the Watervliet Recreational Dome in Watervliet, N.Y.

Albany Conquest Head Coach Steve Matthews is confident that his squad is ready to continue the winning arena football tradition in Albany.

"We are ready to kick-off this season," said Coach Matthews. "We have a lot of top-notch players from all over the country that will be at our training camp and I'm confident we are building a team that can compete for the 2004 ArenaCup," he added.

Training camp will last 12 days, and will conclude on April 5 when the team trims its roster to 21 players (19 active and two inactive). The Albany Conquest will play their regular season opener on the road against the Cape Fear Wildcats on April 10 in Fayetteville, N.C., before returning to the Capital Region for their home opener against the Manchester Wolves on April 16 at the Pepsi Arena.

The Watervliet Recreational Dome is located on Route 32 at the corner of 2nd Avenue and 13th Street in Watervliet, N.Y. A tentative training camp practice schedule at the Watervliet Recreational Dome is as follows:

March 25 and 26: 6:45 to 8:45 p.m.
March 27 and 28: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
March 29 – April 2: 6:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
April 3: (Scrimmage in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.)
April 4: 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
April 5: 6:45 to 8:45 p.m.

The Conquest will compete in a pre-season scrimmage against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers on April 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wyoming Sports Dome in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

All training camp practice sessions at the Watervliet Recreational Dome are open to the media. Players and coaches' interviews will be available at the opening day of training camp on March 25 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. and again following practice from 8:45 to 9:00 p.m. The Conquest will hold its annual Media Day on April 1 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm. at the Watervliet Recreational Dome.
