
Law Opens Camp / Local Laredo Talent Gets A Look

LAREDO, Texas â The Laredo Law areanafootball2 team opened camp today with two practices at the Student Activities Center. The team will practice twice again Friday and scrimmage on Saturday at the SAC. Two local Laredo residents are in camp with the Law as offensive-defensive lineman Erick Gonzalez and Cliff Meneley are both on the training camp roster.
The Laredo Law 2004 af2 season begins April 3rd, with the home opener set for April 23rd at the LEC. Call the Law ticket office at (956)-726-GAME (4263) or log onto www.laredolaw.com.
Gonzalez, who is 22 years old, played locally at United South High School. After graduation he attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas where he played three years of football at the NCAA Division III school. He finished his collegiate career this past fall with the Lobos.
"This is a tremendous opportunity to represent Laredo," said Gonzalez. "I am excited for this chance and I want to make Laredo proud." Gonzalez, a 6"0" 250-pound lineman, currently works at the Laredo Home Depot.
Also in camp is 6'4" 280-pound lineman Cliff Meneley. He played at McAllen Memorial High School in McAllen and graduated in 2000. He currently lives in Laredo where he caught the eye of the Law coaching staff at the February 29th workout at the LEC.
"I liked his size," said Law head coach Scot Maynard. "Our line coach Jim Beverly liked his feet and the way that he moved."
The 22-year old Meneley has been playing with the Laredo Red Raiders football team of the Texas Independent Football League. Practice will begin at 9 a.m. at the SAC on Friday, with an afternoon session set for 12:30 p.m.
LAW DANCE TEAM TRYOUTS
The Laredo Law will be holding tryouts for the dance team for the 2004 af2 season. Dance team tryouts will be held at the LEC on Wednesday, March 24th and Thursday, March 25th. Previous dancing experience preferred, but not required. Both nights the tryouts will begin at 6 p.m.

1st practice â 9:00-11:00 a.m. at SAC
2nd practice -- 12:30-2:00 p.m. at SAC
Saturday, March 20th
1st practice -- 10-11:30 a.m. at SAC
Sunday, March 21st
No on field practice
