Albany Firebirds News Release
Albany, N.Y., July 28, 2004 â The Albany Conquest of arenafootball2 will play their 2004 season finale on the road Saturday evening (July 31) against the Cape Fear Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. at Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, N.C. The game will be televised live on NewsChannel 13 WNYT-TV Albany and can be heard live on 104.5 The Buzz.
With Cape Fear having secured the No. 4 seed and a first round home playoff game in the ArenaCup Playoffs and Albany having been eliminated from postseason contention, there will be no playoff implications to this game, but the Albany Conquest will certainly be playing for pride Saturday against a Wildcats team that has won all four previous meetings between the two teams. Two of Cape Fear's previous four wins over the Conquest took place this season. The Wildcats topped the Conquest, 78-51, on June 6 at Pepsi Arena in Albany, N.Y. and 70-55 on April 10 in Fayetteville, N.C. in what was the season opener for both teams.
"We are playing for pride now against a team that has defeated us twice this season. Our team does not give up. We will be ready for this game and are confident we can end the 2004 season on a positive note," said Albany Conquest Head Coach Rick Buffington.
Albany Conquest offensive specialist Tony Locke has locked up two single-season franchise records already this season. Last week, he established Albany Conquest single-season records in total touchdowns (40) and kick return yards (1,302). He also is tied for the single-season franchise record in touchdown receptions (36) and is 174 yards away from establishing an Albany Conquest single-season record in all-purpose yards.
Albany's Locke and Cape Fear's Matt Burstein are arguably the top two offensive specialists in the league. They have been among the league leaders virtually all season in most offensive categories and this week is no exception. Locke is ranked No. 2 in the league in scoring (242 points), scoring touchdowns (40) and all-purpose yards 2,751. He is ranked No. 3 in af2 with 1,440 receiving yards. Burstein is ranked No. 1 in the league in scoring (252 points), scoring touchdowns (42), and receiving yards (1,575). He is ranked No. 2 in the league in receptions (111) and No. 3 in all-purpose yards (2,708).
Season tickets to all eight 2005 regular season home games and a 2005 first home playoff game are on sale now by calling the Albany Conquest offices at (518) 487-2222 ext. 1.
