Green Bay, WI-The Green Bay Blizzard end their 2004 season this Saturday, July 31st against the Peoria Pirates, their second in the af2. The Blizzard finished their inaugural season in 2003 with a 2-14 record. Both wins coming at home in the Resch Center against the San Diego Riptide and the Louisville Fire. Entering Saturday's game in Peoria, the Blizzard have won a total of 5 games and recording their first road win against the Riptide in Head Coach Brian Noble's first game as head coach. The Blizzard finished 4-4 in their home portion of the season, doubling their total of 2-6 in 2003.
The (5-10) Blizzard face the (9-6) Pirates at the Peoria Civic Center with kick off slated for 7:00 p.m. The Blizzard enter with a 2 game losing streak while the Pirates are one of the hottest teams in the af2 with a 6 game win streak. Peoria's last loss was at the hands of the Blizzard on June 5th at the Resch Center by a score of 59-27.
As in the first meeting, the Blizzard bring in one of the leagues best Scoring Offenses at 49.4 points/game, but also have the 23rd Scoring Defense at 53.5 points/game. With an outstanding offensive performance, the Blizzard could end up with 3 receivers surpassing the 1,000 yard receiving mark. Injured OS Randall Lane has 1,144 yards, OS DeRonn Finley has 909 yards, and WR/LB Robert Garth has 896 yards on the year. QB Andy Sahm rejuvenated the Blizzard offense last week after entering the game in the second quarter against the Louisville Fire. Sahm completed 19-39 for 235 yards and 5 touchdowns with 1 interception.
The Pirates are ranked second in the league in all defensive categories. The Pirates' offense, however, is near the bottom in all offensive categories. FB/LB Casey Urlacher, brother of Chicago Bears Linebacker Brian Urlacher, is the 4th ranked rusher in the af2 with a 15.8 average per game to bring a lone bright spot to their offense.
