Alan McCann and Alex Schultz Named to Switchbacks FC Technical Staff

Colorado Springs, CO - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today that Alan McCann and Alex Schultz will join the club's technical staff. They will join Head Coach Brendan Burke and Assistant Coach Stephen Hogan as part of the Switchbacks FC technical staff.

Alan McCann is joins the Switchbacks' as the clubs Performance and Technical Analyst. He is currently the Head Coach of the Ocean City Nor'easters in USL League Two, the fourth division of American soccer.

"Firstly, I want to say thank you to the Ragain Family, Dean Weidner, and Brendan [Burke] for the opportunity to join the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC," said McCann. "It's an exciting time to join the club with so many great developments happening on and off the field."

McCann joined the Nor'easters this year after two years as an Assistant Coach and two years as the Head Coach at Reading United AC. As Head Coach, McCann led his squad to a 28-3-5 overall record and back-to-back division and conference titles while reaching the USL League Two championship game in both seasons as he was named the 2018 and 2019 USL League Two Coach of the Year.

"Alan has been an integral part of our development pathway as a staff over the last number of years and has a keen eye for recruiting, recognizing patterns in opposition play, and training high performing teams in our preferred style and shapes," said Switchbacks Head Coach, Brendan Burke. "I have no doubt that his inclusion in our weekly discussions on the technical side will add value to our first team environment this year while he pursues another run to the USL League Two Championship Game with Ocean City this summer."

Alex Schultz joins the Switchbacks as the clubs Director of Sports Performance. Schultz is currently the Associate Women's Soccer Coach at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs where he was also the Director of Performance Analysis.

"First and foremost, I want to thank Coach Burke, Brian Crookham, the Ragain Family, and Dean Weidner for giving me this amazing opportunity," said Schultz. "From my first phone call with Brendan [Burke], I could see his vision and plan for the team and knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. With the addition of the new downtown stadium, there is a lot of energy and excitement around the club and I'm just happy to help contribute!"

The Colorado Springs native has also worked as a Soccer Development Intern with Sporting Kansas City in 2016 where he assisted the general manager of the Swope Park Rangers in day-to-day operations of the Swope Park Rangers.

"The Colorado Springs area has a number of good people and resources in the game that are hungry to play a part and grow into the professional game, we view Alex as one of those people," said Switchbacks Head Coach, Brendan Burke. "We are looking forward to bringing Alex on board to more closely monitor the athletic development of our players through the course of the season as we strive to achieve new fitness goals and keep the group intact through a congested 2021 schedule.
