Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, announced that the Akron Racers, professional women's softball team, will participate in the Frontier League All Star Home Run Derby festivities at CONSOL Energy Park on Tuesday, July 17th.

"We couldn't be happier to have the Racers at CONSOL Energy Park this July," said Stu Williams, the Wild Things' owner. "I think there will be tremendous interest in the Racers. There are so many youngsters involved in softball in and around this area, and these women are great role models for them. "

The Racers will travel to Washington where they will host a softball clinic for youngsters at the field. Following the clinic, the Racers will take part in an autograph session/meet and greet with fans. Fans who wish to register for the clinic can do so at: www.akronracers.org/wildthingsclinic.

Upon the completion of the Home Run Derby, which is set to get underway at 6:00, the Racers will face off against several of the Frontier League's All Stars in a softball game.

"We are really excited to be a part of the Frontier League All-Star festivities," commented Joey Arrietta, the Akron Racers Co-Owner/GM. "This is a great opportunity for us to bring professional fastpitch to Western Pennsylvania and to work with the young players in the area. We hope this will be the beginning of a long-term relationship with the Wild Things."

The Racers, who play their home games at historic Firestone Stadium, the oldest in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) League, enter their 12th season of professional softball this summer. The team, who advanced to the playoffs in 2012, features some great softball names such as Sam Marder (Ohio State), Kelly Montalvo (Alabama), and Hillary Back (Arizona State).

"I am incredibly proud to bring the very talented and amazing young women who play for the Akron Racers to participate in this event," noted Arrietta. "They are passionate, professional, and, to me, they are truly a class act!"

Tickets for this game are included in most season packages. The Wild Things are currently accepting deposits for groups who wish to attend this event. Starting in April, individual tickets can be purchased.
