Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release

Grand Prairie, TX (06.22.08) - Cody Merrell drilled a game winning RBI line drive into the gap in right center field, propelling the Grand Prairie AirHogs to their sixth straight win in the bottom of the 12th inning against the Shreveport Sports on Sunday.

The AirHogs began the bottom of the 12th with two quick outs. Mike Conroy came up to the plate and knocked a single into shallow left field to reach base. Aaron Garza followed with a grounder to short that should have ended the game, but instead it bounced off Wade Robinson's mitt into shallow left field. Conroy advanced to third and Garza reached on the fielding error. Drew Holder stepped in and hit a hard grounder to third that Bobby Bratton kept in front of himself with a dive, but couldn't make a throw, allowing Conroy to score the tying run. Merrell stepped up to the plate and drilled a line drive into the gap in right center field, plating Garza, as the AirHogs completed their second come-from-behind victory in a row.

The AirHogs had three costly errors in the top of the 12th that gave the Sports the 1-0 lead. With the bases loaded and two outs, Deacon Burns hit a hard grounder to short. Trevino threw to first and the ball popped out of Billy Munoz's mitt, allowing Terrance McClain to score the go-ahead run. He reached on a throwing error by Trevino to start the inning.

Grand Prairie had a great opportunity to win it in the bottom of the tenth. With the bases loaded and one away, Cody Merrell came up to the plate. He ended the inning though by grounding into a 4-6-3 double play.

Neither team could get any runs through the first nine innings. Shreveport threatened in the top of the third. They loaded the bases thanks in part to two beans by Nat Harris. However, Harris got the AirHogs out of the two-out jam by inducing a foul out down the first base line to Noel Trevino.

Harris earned the no decision in an impressive outing for Grand Prairie. He went 7.1 innings and allowed no runs with two hits, five strikeouts, and just one walk. James Morrision (1-1) recorded the victory, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing just one run, it was unearned, with two strikeouts and one walk.

Matt Pilgreen started the game for Shreveport and earned the no decision. He went four full innings, surrendering no runs off of three hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Matt Clayman (2-4) was the losing pitcher, allowing two runs in 0.2 innings with three hits and two runs.

The AirHogs will head to Fort Worth to start a three-game-series on Monday. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM from LaGrave Field.
