June 24, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release
The Grand Prairie AirHogs' offense plated 13 runs off Jackals' starting pitcher Jon Kibler, defeating New Jersey 14-4 in the finale of the three-game set.
John Brownell was outstanding for Grand Prairie as well. The right-hander threw his second complete game in as many outings, striking out six and only allowing seven hits. Josh Strawn threw a complete-game two-hitter yesterday against the Jackals.
On a partly cloudy Sunday at Yogi Berra Stadium, the AirHogs scored one in the first on a Bryan Frichter RBI double. The road team doubled that number in the second inning, and continued their hot hitting in the top of the third, scoring six on three hits. The AirHogs erupted for four more runs in the top of the sixth, giving them a 13-0 lead, winning 14-4.
Keanon Simon led the way for the AirHogs, going three for six with two RBIs. Brian Myrow and Kenny Held also had big days - Myrow went one for four with two RBIs while Held, whose only other appearance this series was out of the bullpen in a scoreless 12th inning Friday night, went one for two with two RBIs.
Among the Jackals seven hits were three home runs. Jeff Lanning got the Jackals on the board in the bottom of the sixth with a solo shot to right, and Nick Giarraputo followed up on that performance with a two-run shot of his own in the seventh, his second in as many days. Giarraputo continues to lead the Can-Am in home runs (14) as well as batting average (.404) and RBIs (38) . Angel Berroa added a solo shot in the ninth, his ninth of the season. The three homeruns combined for the only runs the Jackals were able to muster against Brownell, who moves to 6-1 on the year.
Jon Kibler allowed all 13 AirHogs runs, five earned, on 12 hits. He drops to 4-2 on the season.
With the loss, the Jackals fall to 21-14 on the season and remain at 699 franchise wins. The Jackals will continue their pursuit of team victory number 700 when the Quebec Capitales come to town tomorrow for a three-game set Monday. The Capitales lost to the Rockland Boulders today, as the Jackals remain 2.5 games behind Quebec for first place in the Can-Am standings.
Going for the Capitales tomorrow will be lefty Craig Clark (3-1, 2.65 ERA), who earned a win in a spot relief appearance in the sixteenth inning of game one with the AirHogs, earning the victory. Clark will square off with the Capitales' Bryan Rembisz (4-1, 3.33). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m, with the pregame show 10 minutes prior.
