While Norfolk and Binghamton battle at Scope for first place in the East, Hershey looks to close the gap with a visit to Wilkes-Barre on Friday night... The Bears come in eight points behind the fourth-place Penguins, but the Pens have their eye on a bigger prize: they're just three points out of first... Hershey has won four of five, including a 4-2 decision in Wilkes-Barre on Jan. 28... Jeff Ulmer has scored a goal in seven straight games, matching the longest such streak in the AHL since Matt Cullen scored in eight straight for Cincinnati in 1997-98... Michel Ouellet ended a 10-game drought with a goal in the Pens' 3-0 win over Bridgeport on Wednesday... Kris Beech, who turns 24 on Saturday, has assumed Wilkes-Barre's team scoring lead with 49 points.
Grand Rapids continues a daunting road trek with stops in Philadelphia on Friday and Rochester on Saturday... The Griffins are 3-7-0-1 away from home after starting the season with 10 wins in 11 road contests... Former Phantom and Amerk Peter Vandermeer has four points in his last seven games for the Griffins; he had four points in his first 36... Saturday's game will pit Griffins forward Kip Miller against a fellow Michigan State alum and Hobey Baker Award winner, his cousin Ryan Miller in the Amerks cage... Kip has 11 points in 15 games since rejoining Grand Rapids just after Christmas.
Winners of three straight, Edmonton hosts Utah in a weekend series at Rexall Place, Friday night and Saturday afternoon... Mike Morrison earned his first AHL win of the year with 22 saves in a 2-1 shootout decision over the Grizzlies on Tuesday; Morrison (1-2-2) has a 1.09 GAA and .963 save percentage with the Road Runners this season... Defensemen Rick Mrozik and Mathieu Roy have a goal and two assists each in two games against Utah this year... The Grizzlies have earned five out of a possible six points in its last three outings.
