New York Dragons News Release
In the midst of a four-game winning streak and boasting the sixth-best offense (52 points/game) in the League, the New York Dragons (5-3) have bolstered their team once again with the re-signing of offensive specialist Kevin Swayne. Since leaving the Dragons in 2001, he has spent three seasons with the NFL's New York Jets.
Swayne left the Dragons to play for the Jets following the 2001 season in which he led the AFL with 131 receptions for 1,890 yards and 43 touchdowns. Swayne tied an AFL single-game record on July 7, 2001 with seven touchdown catches in the Dragons' 99-68 victory over the Carolina Cobras. He is also the Dragons leader in yards gained (4,556) and touchdown receptions with 91.
"It's great to be back with the Dragons and Aaron Garcia," said Swayne, who left mini-camp with the NFL's Washington Redskins to join the team. "The Arena Football League and the Dragons organization have always felt like home and I decided this was a better fit for me right now. I'm hoping to help the Dragons achieve their goal of an ArenaBowl title."
"We knew Kevin would be a great fit for us as we look to build towards an ArenaBowl Championship," said Rory Vacco, Director of Player Personnel, who has maintained contact with Swayne since his departure from the Dragons in 2001. "He will bring veteran leadership to our developing receiving core that we are really excited about. His return will give us the type of depth we have never had before."
Swayne joins an already successful receiving group that includes Will Holder, who has 16 touchdown receptions on the season, Richmond Flowers, who has caught 14 passes, and Lincoln Dupree, currently on a five-game touchdown streak.
The 6-2, 175-pound Swayne will wear No. 3 when he returns to the field this Saturday night, April 10 in Columbus, Ohio against the Destroyers. He will return to the Coliseum turf on Sunday April 18 at 3 p.m. ET live on NBC when the Dragons host the Colorado Crush, co-owned by John Elway.
